Yeeesssssssssssssss!!!!!!! Ah. Take a deep breath and exhale slowly. Last night at about 1AM Sportscenter came out of nowhere and told me that College Football was going to adopt a 4 team playoff system in 2014. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. It’s almost over. The BCS is almost dead. I honestly thought this day would never come. I envisioned the day when my unborn child would ask me “the question”.
“Daddy, why doesn’t college football have playoffs, and what’s with these bowls?”

I have often thought about how I would answer that question. Would I explain that bowls are fun for everyone, and that instead of 1 team winning, 35 teams get to all win a bowl, like a participation ribbon? Would I tell him that bowls are awesome and that he should one day aspire to play in the Meineke Car Care Bowl? Would I explain that the very old and powerful men who run these bowls use them as their personal piggy banks?
Or would I tell him the harsh reality? Bowls are garbage. They are a total waste of time. Out of 35 bowls most people watch approximately 3. I care more about who is on the cover of Madden 2013 (congrats Megatron) than I do about the winners of 95% of the bowls. I mean why are so many teams left celebrating at the end of the season? This isn’t summer camp. There should be one winner and everyone else is a crying loser. That’s how life works.

Now I won’t have to tell him anything. Reports are that the BCS will meet its demise after the 2014 season. I can take three more years of this bowl crap as long as there is a Final Four waiting at the end of the rainbow.
Why do I want a Final Four so badly? A multitude of reasons, here are the top 3:
1. No more teams getting snubbed – Of course someone will gripe that they should be in the Final Four, but at least we’ll get to see those 4 actually play each other and see who is the best.
2. We will have a 16 team playoff - Sports organizations can’t help themselves. Once they see the ridiculous amount of cash and attention that a Final Four brings in they will get greedy and expand. Expand away! That’s what this country is built on! This thing will go to 8, 12, then eventually 16 teams. This is the perfect number, it could include the top 8-12 ranked conference winners as well as some at-large teams.
3. BRACKETS!!!! – Ask anyone what the best part of College Basketball is and they will give you a simple answer. It’s that folded up, crumpled piece of paper containing their hopes and dreams. A College Football tournament means we can fill out brackets, have pools and bet on college football. As far as I know only degenerates gamble on College Football. If we had brackets there would be a pool in every office across the country. Boom. A multi-billion dollar industry created overnight.
