Lin scored 27 and 11 last night to lead the Knicks to their 6th consecutive win.
Just 34 days ago I sent a friend an email, it went like this:
Commish: Who is the Asian dude on the Knicks bench?
BP: Jeremy Lin. He went to Harvard.
Looking back on that email a few things stuck out. First, why does BP know the 9th guy on the Knicks bench? Second, Linsanity is the most improbable, unexpected thing that I have ever seen in sports. 34 days ago I had heard of him. I remember him being at Harvard and I remember him being Asian. That is all. I thought for sure he was a doctor by now. No, he was hibernating at the end of the Knicks bench, next to Jared Jeffries and Steve Novak. He slept on his brother’s couch you see right above. Could have been worse I guess. He could have been sleeping in Cosmo Kramer’s top drawer.
Now just over a month later and Jeremy Lin is firmly in my top 3 favorite active athletes. I don’t have much to choose from as being a New York fan of all the wrong teams has left me feeling empty and unfulfilled.
1. Revis – Having Darrelle Revis on the Jets helps me sleep better at night.
2. Jeremy Lin – I haven’t been this happy as a Knicks fan since Allan Houston beat the Heat as an #8 seed in the playoffs.
3. Austin Rivers – Cold blooded. 49% chance he leads Duke to a title this year.
The thing about Linsanity is I think that it is here to stay. I think he will mesh well with Carmelo Anthony. Lin is too smart and too much of a team player to not play nice. D’Antoni was on the hot seat and all of a sudden he has the Point Guard he’s been searching for since Steve Nash. He went through Duhon, Felton, Bibby, Billups, Douglas, and a bit of Melo but he finally found his PG. He’s got Stoudemire, he’s got Nash v2.0, he’s got Melo, he’ll even have a bench once Baron Davis plays.
P.S.
BP has this Lin fathead on his wall. Said he got it the day the Knicks signed Lin.
